2016 Mower Rules

 

​All mowers must have started life as a lawnmower except in the unlimited class.

 All other classes of mowers must have lawnmower transmission and have primary belt drive.

All mowers must be naturally aspirated and no fuel injection.  Carburetors only.

Jack shafts are allowed.

Secondary drive may be belt, jackshaft, direct or transaxle.

All mowers except  Stock Class may run a centrifugal clutch.

All mowers are required to be self-starting.  Pull starters are allowed.

Jump-starting is allowed on dead batteries but must be done off of the racing surface and not on the track.

Width of mowers not to exceed 45 inches.

Front axle clearance, except for Elgin and Unlimited, must not be less than 3 inches measured from the bottom of the axle, on center, on level ground.

All mowers must have safety lanyard type kill switch installed and working at start of the race.

 FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS ARE MANDATORY Except Stock Mowers.

 Front Bumper: No wider than the width of the frame at the point of the mount. Bottom of bumper must be 5 inches off the ground, and 4 to 6 inches tall.  Can not stick out more than 3 inches from the furthest Point of the mower. If there is a guard to protect the hood, it must be behind the bumper area and can not stick out past the bumper.

REAR BUMPER: Bottom of the bumper must be 5 inches off the ground, 4 to 6 inches tall, width of bumper is center of tire to center of tire and not to exceed the outside of tire or wheel.

BUMPER can not stick out more than 3 inches from furthest point of mower and have  closed ends with no sharp edges.

BRAKES: All mowers must have brakes in working order, brakes must be lever or foot pedal operated.  The flagman can stop the mowers during any lineup to check any and all mowers for working brakes.

No shocks means, No suspension.

FUEL: 110 MAX. octane. Pump gasoline only, except unlimited class where methanol is allowed.  No nitrous oxide and Nitromethane is allowed. If running methanol you must have yellow ribbon or flag so officials will be aware in case of fire etc. 

Mower decks are allowed to be on the mower but blades must be removed and deck welded solid to the frame.

Mowers must have a hood. (President’s Discretion)

Mower numbers- when picking your number, it must be cleared with the Secretary.  Numbers must be clearly displayed in contrasting color, 2 ½” tall both sides of the mower. If a number has not been used for one season, the number becomes available.

Except for the unlimited class, no motorcycle, three or four wheeler, snowmobile or any other non-lawnmower engines allowed

TIRES: Elgin, Open, OHV-Twin, Over 40, Flathead Twin, OHV Single & unlimited have open tire rule and may run racing tires .

All other classes must run turf tires

Golf cart tires are allowed. Grooving of tires is allowed.

No roll cages.

A spring loaded throttle return is to be used.

In the event that not enough drivers show up to race in a class, a single driver for any class may pay entry fee for that class race to receive 10 points for showing up but, will not receive more than 10 points and will not receive a trophy for that class.

If already paid, entry fee can be refunded and driver WILL NOT receive any points or trophy.

Any rule change proposals must be submitted in writing to the President or Vice-President prior to the next association meeting.

Changes and or proposed rules changes will be discussed and or be voted on at the next monthly meeting. Any rule changes made during that meeting will be announced during the drivers meeting prior to the next racing event.

An association member must present any proposed rule changes made during the monthly association meetings.

The only rules changes during the current racing calendar will only be changes that affect Safety related issues.

 MOWER CLASSES

Stock: Just that Stock mower.  Stock Flat Head Single Cylinder Engine Maximum H 13hp factory rating.  Any Gear Ratio. No Governor Required, Governor may be unhooked / disabled. Must have a Transaxle as Final Drive.  No Offset or Stagger.  Front wheels may use metal bushings or bearings to replace plastic or fiber bushings. Also, additional methods of securing wheels to spindles and axles may be used for safety.  Drivers as young as 8 years old may drive in this class. Birth Certificate Required.

Beginner: Flat Head Twin cylinder engine or Single Cylinder engine up to 20hp factory  rating. May run a transaxle or live-axle in this class. Centrifugal Clutches allowed.
     

Powder Puff: Flat Head Twin cylinder engine or Single Cylinder engine up to the maximum  of 20HP  factory rating. May run a trans axle or live-axle in this class.  Centrifugal Clutches allowed in this class.

Flat Head Single: Flat head Single cylinder engines up to 13hp factory rating May run a trans axle or live-axle in this class.  Centrifugal Clutches allowed in this class. 

OHV Single: OHV Single cylinder engines up to 25hp factory rating . May run a trans axle or live-axle in this class.  Centrifugal Clutches allowed in this class.
 
Flat Head Twin: Flat Head Twin cylinder engine. May run a transaxle or live-axle in this class. Centrifugal Clutches allowed.
 
OHV Twin: OHV Twin Lawn Mower Engine. May run a trans axle or live- axle in this class.  Centrifugal Clutches allowed. Open Tire Rule

Over 40: Flat Head Twin cylinder engine or Single Cylinder Engine up to 20hp factory rating. run a transaxle or live-axle in this class.  Centrifugal Clutches allowed in this class.

Elgin Class: Modified frame rear engine.  Limited to 6.5hp factory rating must remain stock except for air cleaner and exhaust header.  (NO RACING MOTORS)

Open:  All front engine mowers allowed with up to 25 hp factory rating.  and must be a lawnmower engine.  Centrifugal clutches ARE allowed. 
. May run a transaxle or live-axle in this class.  Open Tire Rule.

 

OPEN CLASS ENGINE PROTEST RULE:

This Protest ONLY applies to the OHV V-Twins competing in the Open Class.

TEAR DOWN RULE AS FOLLOWS

 $100  PROTEST

PULL HEAD OFF ONLY, TO MEASURE BORE & STROKE.

MAXIMIM OVER-BORE OF .030 (MEANING 30,000)

 WILL BE ALLOWED ON OHV V-TWIN

REFUSAL = LOSS OF POINTS TO DATE FOR DRIVER & MOWER.

2ND REFUSAL = MOWER & DRIVER OUT FOR REST OF SEASON & LOSS OF POINTS.

IF FOUND ILLEGAL WILL LOSE POINTS TO DATE & $100 STAYS WITH PROTESTOR

IF FOUND LEGAL $100 GOES TO DRIVER

A 44 cubic inch is the largest OHV V-Twin allowed in this class.

 Unlimited: No ATV or Go Kart Frames. No knobby tires, any type of fuel, any type of engine; must resemble a lawnmower. You may build your own frame in this class.

*If you run any alcohol/methanol fuel you must display a yellow ribbon or flag so officials are aware for safety procedures.

 Modified Stock Twin/Single

Turf tires (mower or golf cart no racing tires)

Nerf bars are required

Stock carburetor, no cross breeding

Stock Intake, no homemade or cross breeding

Stock rods, no aftermarket rods

Stock Flywheel cast iron, no aluminum

 Stock Cam, lift and duration

 No decking of the block

10.Belt drive only, no chain drive

Any pulley ratio allowed

Must comply with general rules, bumpers etc.

Stock Means Stock



Age limit on the modified stock are 8 – 14.

If you claim a motor, you MUST give a running motor of the same cubic inches to the person you claimed motor from.

 



Claim Rule Modified Stock MOWER

$150.00 Claim Rule.  $150.00 with motor swap.  Complete motor except exhaust and air breather.  $150.00 goes to the person being claimed.

Claimer must have taken checkered flag in the last race of that night.  This also includes the 50/50 race when it is the Modified Stocks turn in the rotation of the 50/50 races.  Must finish all races and be running satisfactorily, to be determined by President/Vice President.
You must be a member of El Reno Grascar to submit a motor claim.
Motor and monies will be given after the final race of Modified Stock for that night.

In order to claim a motor you must notify the President/Vice President of El Reno Grascar within 30 minutes of the last race for Modified Stocks for that night.
Once a claim has been submitted and if you refuses to surrender the motor. You will lose all points obtained so far for the race season.  This will also include any monies from the 50/50 race when it is the Modified Stock's class of the 50/50 race rotation.

A person may not claim a mower 2 races in a row
If you claim a motor you must give the motor to the claimant.

Only the top 3 places can be claimed 1st, 2nd and 3rd.  Anybody who raced in the Modified Stock and finishes the last race of that night can claim a motor. In ascending order:
                8th place first right to claim
                7th place second right to claim
                6th place third right to claim
                5th place fourth right to claim
                4th place fifth right to claim
                3th place sixth right to claim
               2nd place seventh right to claim
               1st place eighth right to claim
